Battling Burnout

Have you ever felt burnout even when you’re doing something you love? Whether you’re a photographer, a florist, or you sit behind a computer all day, burnout is real. It makes you wonder, what really brings me joy? I am feeding into things that make me happy, confident, accomplished? Or am I stuck in a never-ending cycle of excitement, overdrive, and burnout? Sometimes it’s really easy to dive full force into something, whether it’s your work or a new hobby. We all know there really can be too much of a good thing sometimes. Especially if it costs us our peace.

If you know me, you know I absolutely love what I do. It wasn’t that long ago that I took the biggest leap in taking my professional photography business full-time. I truly do love being a photographer. Meeting new people and capturing some of the most special moments in their lives fills my heart. That being said, sometimes I feel like there’s pressure on me to be perfect, to get the most perfect shot, to always say the right things, to really impress my clients. And of course, I want to do all of those things and I strive to. But, every now and then, I get to do shoots like today.

Something for me, created by me. It was just what I needed.

Around midnight, I texted my friend Jess with an inspiration picture and asked if she would be my model. She said yes (she’s the best) and the shoot was planned in less than 24 hours. In that 24 hours, Jess was off to Hollister to piece together her outfit for the shoot and I was off to Trader Joe’s to gather up flowers. You may not know this about me, but I love putting together floral arrangements. It’s another way I can release creative energy and bring myself joy at the same time.

No matter what you do, remember to create time for yourself. Purposeful and intentional time just for you. What makes you happy? What get’s you excited? And hey, give yourself a break. I’d be willing to bet you’ve come further than you ever give yourself credit. Celebrate yourself and focus on things that spark joy. You got this.
